Cllr Bill Wearing

County Council Local Committee has again found funding for a discount card for local young people to travel on local buses. This is the A2B card.

The A2B gives you freedom to travel for less around South Lakeland and beyond.

If you are aged 5-18 and live in South Lakeland your A2B can let you travel on local buses for up to £1.80 for a single journey or £3.00 return.

So you can save your money for the more exciting things in life

To make the most of your A2B you can find out more about how to get around South Lakeland by bus by visiting cumbria.gov.uk or contacting Traveline on 0871 200 22 33.

Get an application form from your local library or online at:

County Fire Service has just issued an appeal to residents to be

Barbecue safe this summer!

Now that the warm, light evenings are with us and the summer holidays are fast approaching, barbecues are beginning to sizzle across Cumbria.

But behind the bangers and burgers, summer fun has a serious side. Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service (CFRS), as part of the national fire safety campaign, is asking everyone to take extra care when cooking al fresco, especially when lighting barbecues.

Cumbria County Council’s Trading Standards service are warning residents in Cumbria to beware of rogue traders following an increase in reports of doorstep crime.

We should all be extremely cautious when approached by any doorstep callers offering to sell goods or conduct work on your property.  They often use persuasive or aggressive tactics to get you to agree to have work carried out and then charge far more than was quoted for poor quality work or goods that may not even be required.

For further advice, or if you want to report an incident you can contact Cumbria County Council’s Trading Standards team via the Citizen’s Advice Consumer Helpline on 03454 04 05 06 or Cumbria Police on 101.

Kindest regards

Bill wearing
