Cllr Bill Wearing

At a recent meeting of the County Council the Director of Public Health for Cumbria presented his Annual report to Council Members. One of his main recommendations was to have a clear weight management pathway for children and young people. This should be developed with an emphasis on preventing overweight in early years and on supporting weight loss at primary school age.

If you would like to look at the full report just log on to the Cumbria County Council web site www.cumbria.gov.uk and put in Public Health Annual Report.

At the Grange and Cartmel Wellbeing Group it was decided to circulate a leaflet with Grange Now to ask the wider community to inform the Group of your top 3 priorities that we need to concentrate on in the coming year. It would be much appreciated if you could fill in the leaflet and return it to the venues identified on the form.

Whilst we are on health matters there is a:

“Fit for Life” Event on

Friday 18th May from 1-4pm  at Cartmel Village Hall organised by Age UK South Lakeland.

During the afternoon you will have the chance to take part in a wide range  of opportunities.

In addition there will be demonstrations from the Hearing loss project,  presentations on benefit advice, volunteering opportunities and all other services available. Refreshments and home-made fare  will be available  throughout the afternoon

FREE ENTRY, but booking for this event is essential. Phone 01539 728118 and speak to Liz Dawes for more information

An issue that came up again at county Council was the concern raised around the use of single use plastics such as takeaway boxes, disposable drinking cups, bottles, stirrers, plastic wrap and straws.

Members unanimously agreed to undertake an audit of single use plastics used by the Authority and seek to replace them with sustainable or reusable alternatives where practicable by the end of 2018.

Kindest regards

Bill Wearing
