The announcement that businesses and residents in South Lakeland are to receive more government help to meet the costs of connecting to faster and more reliable full-fibre internet broadband, has been welcomed by councillor James Airey, the Conservative’s group leader on Cumbria County Council.
From the end March (2018), the government is introducing a Nationwide Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS), to provide vouchers worth up to £3,000 for a small or medium sized business, or £500 for residents, to help with the costs of connecting to full-fibre broadband in areas like South Lakeland.
Responding to the government's announcement, councillor James Airey said: “This is welcome news for South Lakeland. Small and medium sized businesses are the beating heart of our local economy and this announcement means they can receive more help from the government to increase connectivity with gigabit speeds.”
