Westmorland and Lonsdale Conservatives were out in force in Arnside in support of the two Peters. The wet weather could not dampen our spirits as we campaigned for our excellent candidates, Peter Smillie for Arnside ward in South Lakes District Council and Peter McCall, our candidate for Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner. Local politics really matter - as our campaign to save the Fire-station in Arnside which had been threatened with closure proved. We opposed the decision of the ruling LibDem / Labour majority to close the Fire-station. This emergency service was saved in the nick of time as the Firefighters were needed to respond to the challenges brought by the severe flooding in December.
