County Matters

As your County Councillor, I have ensured that the Esplanade and Main Street are being kept at a high standard, thus we have had them recently resurfaced. This brings the total spending in the Grange division on highways, over the last 12 months, to over ¼ of a million Pounds.

We recently set up a recycling sub-group, which I chair, at a meeting of the Local Area Partnership. This is to ensure that we maintain a good standard of service in our area. Recycling is a priority for the Conservative led County Council and working with the District Council we are looking for ways to improve this service. If you have any suggestions please get in touch with me.

An update on Health matters:

At our recent County Health Scrutiny Committee, the new interim chief-executive of Morecambe Bay Hospital Trust gave us an update on the new management structure which, we have been ensured, will improve the Health Care at our local hospitals.

Conservative County Councillor Jim Bland and I have been pressing for Westmorland General Hospital to be used to its full potential as it is currently running with spare capacity. This is a situation that we must change, as over-crowding in other Hospitals, especially Royal Lancaster Infirmary, could be helped by the proper use of Westmorland General. The provision of cancer services is a vital step in this direction.

The Committee has ensured that initial ‘Gold standard’ breast cancer services have returned to Furness General Hospital. This means that patients no longer have to travel to Lancaster for their diagnoses.

At the last meeting of the Grange Prom Youth Group plans were put forward for extra ramps for the skateboard area on the promenade. These were discussed by the youngsters who use the equipment and a budget drawn up and all of us present were tasked with helping to raise funds to make it happen. I would like to thank anyone who has already contributed to the funds but if you would like to donate please contact Liz Cornford at the Grange Community Resource centre office under the fire station on Kents Bank Road.Tel 015395 36032

Regards
