Three South Lakes councillors have provided a combined total of £3,000 to community projects that will promote health, wellbeing and walking in the district.

The three councillors, who represent the Furness Peninsula Ward on South Lakeland District Council, have used their locality budget to support six projects in their area:

  • Councillor James Airey has provided £500 towards the Urswick Playground and another £500 for disabled access and a fishing stand to allow people with disabilities to fish on Urswick Tarn.

  • Councillor Andrew Butcher has given £500 towards a defibrillator at Spark Bridge and £500 to help construct a new walkway at Pennington which will allow children and parents to walk to school.

  • Councillor Caroline Airey has provided £500 towards health and wellbeing work being undertaken by Swarthmoor Parish Council and another £500 to help pay for new equipment at the Ulverston and District Equine Club to allow more young people get involved in the sport.

Councillor Andrew Butcher said: “Promoting good health and wellbeing is hugely important and these six projects will all help in that goal.”
