Plans put forward by local health bosses for a new bone density scanner to be sited at Kendal’s Westmorland General Hospital have been welcomed by a South Lakes councillor who has first-hand experience of the specialist diagnostic service.
Councillor James Airey has previously travelled to Preston and Chorley for the special type of X-ray that measures bone density minerals, and says that the plans to locate a new DEXA scanner in Kendal will make a big difference for patients in South Lakeland.
The League of Friends of Westmorland General Hospital has raised £50,000 towards the cost of the new machine and the plans to site the new equipment in Kendal are expected to be discussed by councillors on Friday (28 September).
Councillor James Airey said: “This is a fantastic fundraising achievement by the League of Friends and something that will make a big difference to the lives of patients in South Lakeland.
“As someone who has who has relied on this specialist scanning service, I know from the local patients I have met in waiting rooms in Chorley and Preston that locating this equipment in Kendal will be warmly welcomed.”
