I am happy to report that the consultation with residents of Priory Lane regarding the setting up of a No Cold Calling Zone has been welcomed by 98% of the 77% who responded. The launch of the scheme will now be on the 14th November.

As I reported last month the Health Authorities were proposing to take out the Vascular Centre at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and as such the Hospital has made an appeal itself to the Health Authorities which is being assessed at present. This has put on hold our Scrutiny of the decision and lack of public consultation in the whole situation is worrying to us all.

I have asked as Chair of the Cumbria Health Scrutiny Committee for the Health Authorities to give us a timescale for when this appeal will be heard.  We can look then at the whole process of decision making that potentially could leave all residents in South Cumbria and North Lancashire having to travel to a hospital in Preston for major vascular surgery.

Supporting Local Communities – Community Grant Opportunities

Are you looking to raise funds for a local project? Does your project benefit the wider community? Are you based within the Grange & Cartmel area? If so, you may be eligible to apply for a grant from the Neighbourhood Forum. Grants are available for voluntary, non profit making community groups and organizations who can demonstrate that their project will benefit the local area. If you would like any further information as to how to apply please contact Kelly Alty on 01539 713447 or [email protected] .

The next Grange & Cartmel Neighbourhood Forum will take place on Wednesday 21st November, 7pm at Grange Primary School. If you have any burning issues or topics you feel would make an interesting agenda item please do not hesitate to get in touch with Kelly as above.

Finally the Police and Crime Commissioner elections are nearly upon us. I would ask that we all go out and vote as the person elected will decide how the Police budget is spent over the next three and half years and how crime will be tackled in our area. The Conservative Candidate, Richard Rhodes, will be at the Victoria Hall in
Grange-O-Sands on the 1st of November between 10 and 12.

Regards

Bill Wearing, Conservative County Councillor for Grange Division
