Councillor James Airey has spent a morning with South Lakeland’s out-of-hours GP service in Kendal ahead of this month’s national NHS70 awards in London where Cumbria Health On Call (CHOC) will be competing in the Excellence in Primary Care category.
During his visit to the CHOC centre at Kendal’s Westmorland General Hospital, councillor Airey was taken on a tour of the service by Susan Blakemore, the organisation’s Chief Executive, and met GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and support staff caring for patients during the current heatwave.
Councillor Airey, the Conservative group leader on Cumbria County Council, said: “I was tremendously impressed with Cumbria Health on Call and the work they are doing to help more patients in South Lakeland get the care and support they need, closer to home.
“Primary and community health services are critically important for patients in South Lakeland. It is fantastic that the Government is committing an extra £20 billion to the NHS and I hope this clinically-led investment in our area will continue to be used to support both hospital and out-of-hospital services for local patients.”
